Кто-то в интернете мне возразил, что, мол, всё, что у меня есть в поддержку общего утверждения "code comes only from a mind", справедливо только для белковых мозгов, что обобщать некорректно. Я возразил ему так.

Во-первых, это уже фактически неверно. В нашем распоряжении есть теперь не только protein based agency, но и silicon based agency (кстати, задолго до AI уже были всякие автопилоты, которым можно было перепоручить принятие решений). И во-вторых, абстрагирование в данном случае абсолютно корректно. На то нам и голова дана, чтобы отделять важное для решения конкретного вопроса от неважного. Физическая реализация agency не важна. Важно лишь то, что agency способно создавать символьные граничные условия для движения частиц вещества в системе. Важно также то, что никаких эмпирических подтверждений возможности их неинтеллектуального формирования у наших оппонентов не имеется.

We do know that agency (both protein based and silicon based) can create specific symbolic constraints on the motion of matter in the system. We do not have any evidence suggesting (as seems to be your position) that they can come about completely unaided by agency. And, in addition to that, the power of abstraction at the foundation of science enables one to categorize characteristics of phenomena into more important and less important for the problem at hand. Agency coextensive with protein based brains is still agency, is it not?

The whole argument looks to me like this. I say X is a property of straight lines and give you an example of a black line supporting my point. You come and object by saying that my example is not correct because the line is not green. The point being, whether the line is black or green is immaterial to the discussion. A material objection would have been for you to present empirical evidence for something like the semiotic core arising unaided by agency.
